“Ki energy is activated in Reiki by stimulating a person’s own natural healing abilities, seeking out the origin of the imbalance to restore energy flow and intuitively treat the body as a whole – spiritually, emotionally and physically –
as opposed to just treating a set problem or particular symptom.”
Gary Malone, Author of The Essence of Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a generic word in Japan used to describe many types of healing and spiritual work.
The system of healing that evolved from Dr Mikao Usui’s method is called Usui System of Natural Healing or Usui Shiki Ryoho.
Rei means universal. As it is used in Reiki it can be interpreted as spiritual or universal consciousness or wisdom. This is the wisdom that comes from Source/Spirit/God or the Higher Self.
Ki means the same as Chi and Prana. This is the non-physical energy that animates all living things. When it is abundant and flowing freely, you experience greater health and wellbeing.
“Each and every being has an innate ability to heal as
a gift from the gods.”
- Dr Mikao Usui
Creator of the Usui Reiki method
How does Reiki work?
Your practitioner is attuned to be a conduit for the source of the Reiki energy, which flows through the practitioner’s hands to you. Your system determines the amount of energy flow from the practitioner’s hands, taking only what you need.
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. Our life force flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis, nourishing the organs and cells of the body. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
The life force is also responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This can diminish the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.
Reiki raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where negative thoughts and feelings are attached, which causes them to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
Because Reiki is guided by universal intelligence it can never do harm. It always gives a person what they need and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them.
What happens during a session?
You lay comfortably on your back, fully clothed with a blanket over you if desired.
If you’re unable to lie down, you can stay seated.
Rose connects with the Reiki energy, often begins with a settling and grounding process around the lower body then gently places her hands palms down on or just above your body, using a sequence of hand positions starting at the head and slowly moving toward the feet. As Reiki energy flows through Rose’s hands to your body and energy field you may feel something like a warm energy bath or other pleasant sensations including relaxation. Rose works intuitively so may also use techniques from other energy healing modalities she is trained in, according to your needs.
